"혈관성 치매, 혈액표지로 진단 가능"
알츠하이머병 다음으로 흔한 형태의 치매인 혈관성 치매는 혈액 표지인 태반 성장 인자(PlGF: placental growth factor)로 진단할 수 있다는 연구 결과가 나왔다. 태반 성장 인자는 혈관을 생성하는 주요 인자 중 하나로 임신 중 태반에서 생산돼 태반 내 혈관 형성과 성장을 촉진한다. 태반 성장 인자는 출생 후에도 혈관 생성과 수리에 이용된다.

AI가 파킨슨병 새 치료 후보물질 찾았다
과학자들이 인공지능(AI)을 활용해 파킨슨병의 새 치료 후보물질을 찾아냈다. 앵거스 맥퀴반 캐나다 토론토대 교수 연구팀은 미국 IBM의 의료AI 프로그램 ‘왓슨 포 드러그 디스커버리’를 사용해 파킨슨병의 원인으로 지목되는 미토콘드리아 폐기물 제거를 돕는 화합물을 찾아내고 연구결과를 2일(현지시간) 국제학술지 ‘플로스 생물학’에 발표했다.

변비약 계속 먹으면 치매 위험 50% 높아져
정상적인 대변 횟수는 1주에 3~9회 정도를 말한다. 그런데 1주에 대변 횟수가 3회 미만이거나, 대변을 볼 때 과도하게 힘을 줘야 하거나, 잔변감이 있거나, 변이 단단하거나, 항문 폐쇄감이 있거나, 대변을 보기 위해 손을 사용해야 할 때 변비로 본다. 이들 6가지 증상 중 2가지 이상을 겪는다면 변비(특발성 변비)로 진단한다. 변비 환자가 66만5,000여 명(2021년 기준)에 이를 정도로 흔하고, 15세 이상에게서 16.5%가 변비를 겪는다는 조사 결과도 있다.

Scientists find genetic Alzheimer’s risk factor tied to African ancestry
scientists and their colleagues have discovered that a gene variant found almost exclusively in the genomes of individuals of African ancestry dramatically boosts Alzheimer’s risk. About 4% of African Americans carry this variant. The findings derive from a study of nearly 32,000 individuals of African ancestry (almost all of them African Americans) published online Feb. 21 in JAMA. They reveal a significant but previously unexplored genetic factor contributing to Alzheimer’s disease in African Americans, who are at slightly greater risk of developing the disorder than other ethnic populations in the United States. And they provide a window into the workings of the mysterious ApoE protein, which comes in multiple forms, one of which is the most significant known genetic risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease.

치매신약 '레켐비' 국내 도입한다…"내년말 목표"
미국에서 신속 승인을 받은 알츠하이머성 치매 신약 '레켐비'(성분명 레카네맙)가 국내에도 도입될 전망이다. 27일 이 약 공동 개발사인 한국에자이에 따르면 올해 중반께 국내 식품의약품안전처에 레켐비의 품목허가를 신청할 계획이다. 2024년 말 허가받는 것을 목표로 하고 있다.

복지부 "5년안에 블록버스터급 신약 2개 개발하겠다"
정부가 블록버스터급 신약을 2개 개발하고 21조원에 달하는 의약품 수출을 달성하겠다는 목표를 공개했다. 의료기기 수출액 역시 2027년까지 약 21조원을 달성해 의료기기 세계 5위 수출국가로 거듭나겠다고 장담했다. 보건복지부는 28일 오전 청와대 영빈관에서 열린 범부처 바이오헬스 신시장 창출 전략회의에서 바이오헬스 신시장 창출 전략을 대통령에게 보고, 발표했다.
